Geometric Tangram Art

Our art project for this term, has been to create a Tangram Geometric piece of art.

A tangram is a square that has been divided into seven shapes. We used these shapes to create an object. Some children made animals, some buildings, others people.

We have painted the background of our artwork using either hot or cold colours. If we used cold colours in the background, we then had to use hot colours for our tangram. We used a sponge to add texture when painting our tangrams.

Next week, we will put our tangram together on our background to complete our artwork.

Tessellations

Today in maths we learnt about tessellations. These are when you cover a surface using a pattern of shapes so that there are no gaps. We made our own tessellation and made a tessellation template, so that we can make our own patterns next week.

Zoo Trip

We have had so much fun today. We explored the zoo and most of its amazing animals. We spent most of our time in the NZ Native section, which must be right up there with the best in the world. This was our day!

Fractions

Today we worked on our problem solving skills. We worked in groups to solve some fraction problems. First need shared a whole pizza between two people. We then had to solve sharing 3 bags of popcorn between 4 people. This was a bit trickier to work out.

We found it hard sharing the 3 bags of popcorn so that everyone had an equal share.

We had to cut each bag of popcorn into 4 equal pieces and then share the pieces (quarters) out. Luke ended up with 3 quarters, so did Oliver, Jade and Angelah.
