Multiple Intelligences

Today we were discussing Dr Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelliences. He set aside the idea of one IQ test, and came up with eight intelligences. Dr Gardner proposed that everyone is intelligent, and these intelligences can be found in a number of different areas. Each intelligence correlates to a certain part of the brain and relates to personal abilities and skills.

We have completed our Multiple Intelligence Survey and will find out shortly which intelligences we are strongest in and which intelligences we might need to strengthen during the year. Today we predicted what intelligence we thought that we would be strongest in.

Above in a little bit of information about Gardner's Multiple Intelligences:

There are the eight different intelligences:

Day 1, 2015

We have spent the day getting to know each other better and learning each other interests.
This afternoon, we had a problem to solve. We needed to cross the shark infested waters without letting anyone fall into the water. All we had to cross was three safety rafts (hoops). We were using our Key Competencies this afternoon. We had to work as a team (Participating), find a solution to the problem (Thinking) and work well with others (Relating to Others).
We found this quite a tricky task for Day One, only one team managed to survive.

First strategy for the boys.

Getting nice and cozy!

Lucas and Armaan helping each other out.

The winners!

Second attempt.

Welcome

Welcome back! I am very excited about this year, we have many exciting and challenging things to look forward to.
It was lovely to meet everyone yesterday - children, parents and grandparents.
As you may have seen, the building works is not quite finished, the new completion dates are all within the next 4-6 weeks, unfortunately until then, we will need to be patient and understanding of a little bit of noise.
I sent home quite a few notices yesterday about upcoming events. Next week, we have skateboarding lessons starting on Tuesday (please wear enclosed shoes), Wednesday evening you can meet the teacher and on Friday we are going on our beach trip to Owera. Please return forms for these as soon as possible.
Parents, if you ever have any questions or queries, please come in and see me, or email me on lindah@westernheights.school.nz.
Looking forward to a fantastic year. Linda Hall

Welcome to Room 23!

End of Year

It has been an amazing year Room 15, you should all be very proud of your effort and achievements this year. I am sad to say good-bye, however I am sure that you will go on to do great things, not only next year, but in all the years to come. Good luck, and enjoy the holidays.

Inquiry - La Tomatina

This term we have been studying festivals. We had being finding out about La Tomatina. This is a Spanish festival which involves tomato throwing, it is now the largest food fight in the world. The children have been developing games which involve "tomatoes". We have created the games and are presenting them by the way of a poster, so that we can share them with others in our class as well as with other classes in the Middle school.

This term we have also learnt about Solo Taxonomy, this is a Thinking Tool which is helping us to expand our ideas and thoughts. These are the Solo Taxonomy steps:

We have also been busy using the devices in our classroom. To help explain the rules of our games, we have made videos which show others how to set up our games, the aim of our games and how to play our games. We have added these to our posters using QR Codes.

This is an example of our QR Codes. Scan the QR Code below to see the instructions to the La Throw-a-tina Game:
What a busy, yet fun term we have had, now we have only a couple of weeks left, sad and exciting times are ahead.
