Trips

I would like to thank all of the parents who have helped this week with class trips.
It is greatly appreciated, without you we just would not be able to go.
Thank you for standing supporting the sports teams yesterday and for supervising the children at MOTAT today.  I have amazing parents, who are fantastic at supporting me and their children.
 Thank you so much.

Kiwi Sport - Winter Field Sports Day

I travelled with the Kiwi Sports Teams to Te Pai Netball Courts for our Kiwi Sports competition. It was a wonderfully sunny, however very cold day. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and participated and contributed to their teams outstandingly. We learnt some new games, which the children will hopefully take back to their own classes and teach them how to play. Thanks Maria (Wesley and Victoria's Mum) for the photo's.

Kakapo Assembly

This morning Room 23 ran the Kakapo Assembly. Ben shared his autobiography after being introduced by Joseph. Nadia then introduced Anna who played the piano. Luka shared his information about his Cupcake fundraiser, raising funds for a "secret" animal that will join the school next year. Finally, Daniel introduced Jamin. Jamin played the drums, continuing even when his foot pedal fell off.
Congratulations to all of you for speaking in front of such a big audience. I am sure you have all gained confidence, some even wanting to have another go later in the year.

This afternoon Marissa and Kaitlyn (and their team) presented their Jump Jam routine to the Kakapo Syndicate.
Well done girls, you were very successful in leading the routine.

Thanks to Kayla and Jessica for the notices next week.
For our two trips next week, Winter Sports Day on Tuesday and Motat on Wednesday remember to bring your morning tea, lunch, a drink and warm clothing.

Telescope

Today I brought in a telescope from home to show to the Grinch's reading group who are studying planets. We couldn't look at the stars today, however we did manage to view the Sky Tower and Rangitoto.
Remind me to take it to camp next term.

Literacy Projects

Over the next two weeks, we will be completing some literacy projects.
Each reading group has a different project.
Sneetches Group - Will be completing a project relating to Dragons, based on the book "Dragon's Diary".
Hortons Group - Will be completing a Science Project relating to water, based on the book "Water, Water, Everywhere".
Grinchs Group - Will be completing a project investigating our Solar System, based on the book "Interview with an Astronomer".
Lorax Group - Will be completing a project relating to Castle and Dungeons, based on the book "Dungeons of Castle Crag".

The children will either work by themselves or with a buddy. The Hortons and Grinches have been introduced to their project.
The Grinches have decided to study planets in our solar system. We have discussed which planets the children are going to study and started to gather facts about our planets. We then quickly discussed ways that we could present our findings back to the class and found these pictures to help us from 2013 ... recognise anyone!

More to come, keep watching this space.
